The evolution of CharMaker – a story of innovation and impact
The patented CharMaker was conceived in 2009 when engineers and scientists at Earth Systems went to work on a major problem in Australia – the burning of biomass in farmers’ fields leading to greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, fire risk and resource wastage.
The aim was to create a technology that was cost-effective, robust and mobile. Our story has been of innovation and persistence with a focus on learning through doing. Over more than 15 years we are proud to be one of the international experts in pyrolysis and biochar production with our technology still leading the world.
Not only have we been a pioneer in the development of the CharMaker, we have also actively sought markets for biochar, wood vinegar, carbon credits and other products derived from the CharMaker.
Our CharMaker and biochar production is housed within Cyclic Carbon which remains one of the group companies of Earth Systems.

Our R&D Journey
Our R&D journey started in 2009 and continues today. We continue to expand what the CharMaker can do – looking at, for example, different feedstocks, energy production, specialised gas extraction, designer biochars and specialised carbon products.
Our ongoing mission is to produce the most versatile, efficient and cost-effective biochar machine in the world; driving renewable and sustainable carbon generation for a net zero economy.
